Points to Consider

The media reports that 9 were killed. They always say killed to protect from potential liability. I get it. But nine were not killed—nine were murdered and for the sake of the victims and grieving families, it should be more accurate.

Very little to no information is being reported.

We don’t know how the shooter got in, any connection to the school, or what they did or where they went once inside the school. What we do know is that the shooter appears to have murdered his mother and sibling before beginning the attack.

It is not uncommon to murder or try to murder family members first. It has happened at least 11 other times.

When you’re doing a threat assessment on a student, please try to remember the family. They too may need protection.

Every news source has given the start time for the attack as 1:20.

It started much earlier. 1:20 is when the shooting started at the school. The attack started the moment the shooter got dressed into their attack clothing, picked up the weapon, and murdered his family. That is when the Path to Violence crossed into the final stage—attack.

The better we understand the threat and the Path to Violence the stronger our protection and the better our responses.
