From the Course:
7 Second Lockdown Coaching

When you’re staring down a hard decision and you’re not sure which path is the responsible, wise, and safe one, ask yourself this one question:

If the worst thing were to happen, could I recover?

If the answer is yes, you’re probably looking at a risk.
If the answer is no, you’re probably taking a gamble.

A risk you can recover from.
A gamble you cannot.

We often confuse the two.
We avoid a risk we should take because we fear failure and think it’s fatal.
And we gamble with our safety because we forget just how difficult—most often impossible—it is to recover from extreme violence.

The truth is, most things in life are risks.
No doubt they can be scary, challenging, and anxiety filled—but if the worst happens, you can recover from most risks.

You just take your lumps, learn, get better, and try again.

But not perfecting your lockdowns to seven seconds? That’s a gamble.

Because if the worst-case scenario happens, you don’t get a second chance. There’s no do-over. No recovery. No coming back from a lost life.

It’s over and that’s the point.

Take every calculated risk you can endure.
Stretch yourself. It’s the only way to have a great school and a memorable career. Seriously, go for it but remember to keep it in the proper perspective.

If you can recover, it’s only a risk.
If you can’t, it’s a gamble and everything changes

Great leaders take risks and avoid gambles.
Not being able to lock down in 7 seconds or less?
That’s a gamble you can’t afford and should not take.

A lockdown is not a drill. It’s your failsafe. It's when everything else has failed so it must be perfect. In a lockdown, there's no second chance, and the first few seconds will determine the outcome.

We’ve built free resources to help schools lock down in 7 seconds or less—to control those first few seconds. And if you want personal, hands-on help, we'll come onsite and work directly with your staff to make sure your failsafe is ready.
