Conducting School Vulnerability Assessments

Become an invaluable resource!

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED--pronounced 'sep-ted') is one of the greatest tools available for making our schools, homes, public buildings, courts, housing projects, businesses, and communities safer.

CPTED is not one technique, but a series of straight forward strategies that can be implemented to make any space immediately safer.

CPTED is not target hardening, but reshaping the environment in simple and non-obtrusive ways to not only make people safer, but also happier!

First developed in response to rising crime in our neighborhoods and extreme changes in law enforcement in America in the 1970's, CPTED has rapidly expanded and is now being practiced on an international scale.

Those who attend this training will learn the art of implementing CPTED in a public school...and therefore become invaluable resources to their schools and leaders in their profession.

Participants will learn how to...
  • Effectively implement the internationally proven strategies of CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design)
  • Reshape the environment to positively influence human behavior
  • Conduct a comprehensive school vulnerability assessment
  • Make any classroom, hall, or space immediately safer
  • Determine a school's overall vulnerability to violence and implement strategies to make students and teachers safer
  • Reduce the Opportunity, Ability, and desire for crime and other unwanted behaviors to occur on school grounds
  • Identify the types of violence a school is most susceptible to and techniques to minimize the risk
  • Evaluate a school's climate or cultural acceptance of violence
  • Increase student supervision without increasing staff duties
  • Convey a clear message to would be offenders, without target hardening, that a school is not an 'easy' target of violence
  • Take advantage of the effects of space, lighting, and color on human behavior
  • Apply CPTED in real world applications
  • Adopt a 360 Degree Proactive Mindset
  • Utilize Mechanical and Human Security Techniques
  • And so much more
