Problem
Threat assessments are based on a law enforcement (FBI) paradigm of identifying and stopping a behavior with outside action. In this model behaviors are placed above all else.
Public schools stand in place of the parent and therefore must act as a parent to all students...even those who are dangerous. They can't ignore behaviors but as the parent, schools must place love above behaviors.
“I will love you regardless of your behavior.”
As difficult as that may be to live out, it is the foundation of great families and schools...but not threat assessments.
Solution
Assess & Progress enables you to maintain a loving parent-child relationship even when the student’s behaviors are threatening. Assess & Progress focuses on growth (love) instead of punishment and consequences (behaviors). This structure not only makes schools safer but allows educators to remain in harmony with the true calling of their profession...to love students.
Problem
Threat assessment are of no value to the student or the parents. It’s something done to them...and not with them.
Solution
No one is a bystander with Assess & Progress. Assess & Progress gives the student the ability, encouragement, and materials to play an active role in their own lives. The student as well as the parents now have the ability to participant in determining where they are (assess) and where they want to be (progress).
It’s no longer something happening to them but an opportunity to work with their school to redeem and better their own lives.
Problem
Threat assessments are extremely cold, technical, and confusing. In one of the most scariest moments…parents have absolutely no idea what’s happening. If you don’t understand what’s happening how in the world can you help?
Solution
Assess & Progress gives parents a guidebook as well as a list of activities to follow at home, worksheets to help Assess & Progress their own children, and other materials that will greatly assist parents as well as your efforts to be successful.
Through greater understanding and support, Assess & Progress finally gives parents the ability to play an active role!
Problem
The worst thing isn't having a problem. The worst thing is having a problem and no plan. Threat assessments tell you if you have a problem...but they don't provide a plan.
Solution
Assess & Progress enables you to accurately determine a student's proclivity to violence and provides a Growth and Progression (GAP) plan to effectively transition students from a lower to a higher category in The 4 Categories of Life (UNSAFE, STRUGGLING, SATISFACTORY, STRONG.)
Assess & Progress gives you a clear, positive, and practical path out of your problem.
Problem
Threat assessments pit the school against the student, the parents against the school, and the community against the family. This is an incredibly destructive relationship that helps no one.
Solution
Assess & Progress gets rid of this contention and competition because it gives you the structure and materials to keep everyone focused on growth and not punishment or consequences. This priority is something that everyone (students, parents, teachers, and community) can fully support and it's also the best way to keep your school safe.
A student who is UNSAFE must progress, move forward, grow into something better. This is the only real way to end the threat for if you save the student...you save everyone.
Problem
Threat assessments only focus on who is or who is not a threat. This is too limiting...
Solution
Assess & Progress treats the student holistically and looks at the safety as well as the emotional, social, and academic needs of the student. If a student is not a threat, Assess & Progress doesn't stop there but helps to identify other services that could benefit the student.
Sometimes a student isn't a threat but just needs extra help...
Problem
A threat assessment determines if a student is a potential murderer. Of course students, parents, teachers, communities, and even the threat assessment coordinators are stigmatized when one is initiated.
Who wouldn’t be?
Solution
While it can’t remove all stigma, Assess & Progress greatly minimizes it because it is multifaceted and prioritizes solutions and not only problems.
This type of positive, holistic, and solution driven approach is familiar, accepted, and appreciated by everyone in a public school. Assess & Progress just mirrors this example and therefore greatly reduces confusion, fear, and anxiety.
Assess & Progress gives you the skills, abilities, and materials to transition disconnected and dangerous students from a lower to a higher category in The 4 Categories of Life (Unsafe, Struggling, Satisfactory, and Strong).
Assess & Progress prioritizes growth over pushinment making your results more positive and lasting and your efforts more sustainable and rewarding.
